This Week in Worship

Kingdom Life:We Make the Road by Walking

Isaiah 65: 17-25  Being part of the Kingdom Life means asking ourselves some questions that lead to action.  How do I pray? How do I get present? What gifts do I have to give? How can I serve my neighbors? How can my life reflect the light of Christ?  As we work to answer these questions, we realize we have some choices that lead us to action.  These choices lead us to moving forward down the road of our faith journey.

Kingdom Life Stewardship Sunday
Sunday we celebrate what it means to be a part of the Kingdom Life.  We come together in all our four services to pledge our hearts and our financial resources in a unified effort to offer abundant life. You should have received your Stewardship Packet in the mail, but if not, they will be available at worship.  As we put our resources together, we will be able to help our members and community discover and share the abundant love of God.  What a wonderful day to celebrate what God has done and will do in the life of Shady Grove UMC!
Opportunities to Serve in Worship
There are many ways to serve during worship on a Sunday morning. Have you considered being an usher, welcome center host, worship leader, communion setup, choir, song leader, vocalist or instrumentalist in TestifyRVA? EMAIL Frank Basil and he will get you connected with the right person.
Charge Conference - Monday, November 18
All members of the church are invited to attend the SGUMC Annual Charge Conference on Monday, November 18, 6:30 pm in the sanctuary. Important information about our 2020 year including annual business items and adjustments to our building plan. Questions? EMAIL Frank Basil or speak with Pastor Chris or Pastor Beanie.
Lost and Found
There are regularly many items left at church, coats, YETI cups, glasses, umbrellas and more. If you are missing anything, check the lost and found bins in the fellowship hall or at the church office. Things remaining after a month or so will be donated to a worthy cause.
Can you offer an extra pair of hands to get our church garage organized?
Starting at 8 am on Saturday November 16, join in on the fun task of purging and organizing. Wear warm clothes and bring work gloves. Contact Terri Ellis or Jamie Bittner for more information.

Lewis, the most important writer of the 20th century, explores the common ground upon which all of those of Christian faith stand together. Bringing together Lewis’ legendary broadcast talks during World War Two from his three previous books The Case for Christianity, Christian Behavior, and Beyond Personality, Mere Christianity provides an unequaled opportunity for believers and nonbelievers alike to hear this powerful apologetic for the Christian faith. This Sunday is week 2, but it is not too late. • DISCIPLE 3 Fast Track will be offered at SGUMC on Wednesday nights starting January 8th.  It is a 25 week course that focuses on 12 books of the Old Testament (major and minor prophets except for Daniel) and on the 13 New Testament letters.  If you are interested in taking part in this Bible Study please EMAIL Sandi Shriner.
Year-End Giving Reminder
First, we would like to thank you for your generosity in 2019. Through your gifts, we support annual operations and enrich ministry programs such as missions, youth, music, discipleship and community outreach. We ask that you prayerfully and faithfully continue to give and meet your 2019 pledge which helps the church meet its 2019 budgetary needs. Please also remember that you can make a gift (stock, mutual funds, etc.) to SGUMC and you will:
  • avoid all broker commissions/fees;
  • avoid all capital gains taxes;
  • take the full market value of the security as a 2019 tax donation (regardless of what you may have originally paid for it);
  • benefit SGUMC with the full market value of the security(s).
  • possibly satisfy your 2019 Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you are over age 70½. Direct transfers of RMDs up to $100,000 are not reported as income.
  • fulfill some/all of your 2020 pledge and record it as a 2019 deduction.
As this year quickly comes to a close, please be sure to submit your contributions for the calendar year to the church office by December 31, 2019. All contributions must be received or postmarked by December 31 to be tax deductible as a charitable contribution in the tax year 2019. Also to ensure the deductibility of your church contribution, please do not file your 2019 income tax return until you have received your 2019 contribution statement from the church in January 2020.
